A daybed mattress is a couch-bed combos and especially popular when furnishing smaller homes or apartments because you can use them to sleep, lounge, or sit. Our top recommendation for a daybed mattress is the AS3 from Amerisleep, a medium mattress designed to support back and stomach sleepers, as well as relieve back pain. At 12 inches thick it’s one of the thickest mattresses we recommend for daybed mattresses.

All Amerisleep mattresses come with a 100-night sleep trial, free shipping, free returns, and a 20-year warranty.

9.5 Overall Score
  • 9 Value
  • 10 Edge Support
  • 9 Trial Period
  • 9 Response Time
  • 10 Motion Transfer
  • 10 Cooling & Breathability

The balanced feel of the AS3 is perfect for a versatile daybed mattress that sees a lot of daytime and nighttime use. The surface will yield to people sitting down, yet buoy them so they don’t slip too far into the mattress.

However, the true comfort of the AS3 is best appreciated when lying down, as the top gently enfolds the body and gives each area the specific support it needs.

Some AS3 reviewers did mention its use as a daybed mattress, and they are happy, but others claim the bed will sometimes sag:

Gwen: I was skeptical about buying a mattress online, but decided to take a chance due to the positive customer reviews and product guarantee/100 day return policy. The Liberty mattress was received quickly. I unboxed the mattress and left it on the floor to ‘breathe’ until I got it on the daybed. It did not have an odor. Although the daybed mattress frame had great support, I put 3/4″ plywood on the frame to ensure no sagging.

Siesta Dreams: I bought a twin sized AmeriSleep Liberty after doing a lot of on-line research, to go on the daybed in my (home) office, which obviously allows it to be an extra guest room when I need it. As planned, I slept on the twin day bed for a couple of weeks just to see how I liked the memory foam technology, and particularly to test the AmeriSleep offering. I have joint issues, so getting a good night’s rest has been an elusive situation for me for some years…until I bought that AmeriSleep twin mattress.

Ricardo: I got the AS3. The mattress feels comfortable but is too soft and has little motion isolation. It sinks and feels like you could roll in. I started to get hips pain. I wait 180 lbs and I tend to sleep on my sides and back. Because of the hip pain from sleeping sideways I now tend to sleep more on my back. My wife in the other hand sleeps on her stomach and she gets back pain. Our baby sometime sleeps with us but because of the bed sinking too much the baby rolls to the center of mass.

The top of Bio-Pur® foam is hypoallergenic and wrapped in an ultra-soft and airy cover to absorb moisture and keep you cool. Bio-Pur® is a breathable, plant-based foam. It provides cushioning and pressure relief without being overly soft, so you won’t sink too far and misalign your spine.

The middle layer is Affinity foam with HIVE® technology. HIVE® is a hexagonal-shaped foam constructed with zones so your back, legs, and head are properly supported while your hips and shoulders are cradled.

Beneath the Affinity foam layer is the Bio-Core® base. This poly-foam layer supports your body, promotes healthy spinal alignment, and reduces the risk of premature sagging.

Pros

  • Plant-based memory foam sheds absorbed heat
  • Targeted support for five areas of the body
  • Base foam structures the bed for strengthened stability

Cons

  • Some may prefer a firmer mattress for the surface

What the testers say: “The AS3 mattress offers exceptional bang for your buck. With different price ranges and sizes available, it caters to various budgets and preferences. Comparing it to other mattresses in the market, I wholeheartedly believe the AS3 is a worthwhile investment. It provides a high-quality, restorative sleep experience that simply cannot be overlooked.” – Dr. Colleen Ehrnstrom, Ph.D., AS3 Reviewer

Next on our list is the Zoma Start Mattress, a memory foam mattress for athletes who snore. We like the Zoma to silence snoring because it’s built with Triangulex™ technology to promote healthy sleeping positions.

The Zoma Mattress stands 11 inches tall and has three carefully-crafted layers. While the Zoma is built to feel medium, some reviews mention it feels medium-soft; so it’s on the softer side of the firmness scale.

Every Zoma mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty.

9.2 Overall Score
  • 10 Value
  • 10 Edge Support
  • 9 Trial Period
  • 8 Response Time
  • 9 Motion Transfer
  • 9 Cooling & Breathability

Lying down on the Zoma Start, the first thing you’ll notice is that it is highly responsive for an all-foam mattress. This is all thanks to the layer of bouncy Reactiv™ transition foam that springs back as soon as you move and offers dynamic support.

This medium mattress also offers tons of versatility for all kinds of sleepers. It is on the more supportive end of a medium feel. So it can accommodate some back sleepers and virtually all combo sleepers at once. This is perfect for combo sleepers who tend to favor their backs. It also is a good fit for those who suffer from back pain.

Some of the thousands surveyed on the Zoma Mattress daybed mattress had this to say:

Parth P: It is a phenomenal mattress especially for the price!

Billy K: Kind of firm waking up with shoulder pain occasionally

Xiao C: It’s of good quality overall. Came with proper packaging and easy to set up. It was a bit too soft for my back the first night, but after that I experience no back pain sleeping on it.

The Zoma Start starts off with a cooling, ventilated cover that breathes all night to wick away heat and sweat. This cover works with the gel memory foam comfort layer to ensure your sleep surface stays cool all night. The gel memory foam also offers a high degree of compression and pressure relief to ensure you get the contouring you need.

Underneath the comfort layer, you’ll find a bouncy transition layer made of Reactiv™ foam. This layer offers buoyancy and dynamic support. It also springs back as soon as you move to ensure that the sleep surface does not have issues with body impressions or slow response time.

Finally, a layer of highly durable base foam ensures there is no sinkage in this mattress. It keeps you lifted onto the sleep surface and provides total spinal alignment. Best of all, this base foam layer increases the durability of the entire mattress.

You can expect it to fight sagging and soft spot development for at least 10 years. That means it will last just as long as many more expensive mattresses.

Pros

  • Gel memory foam draws body heat away from you
  • Bouncy transition fights body impressions and offers dynamic support
  • Versatile firmness level offers accommodation to lots of types of sleepers

Cons

  • No range of firmness options

What the testers say: “Overall, the Zoma Start was firm and provided good support for all sleeping positions. The temperature was not an issue and was consistent with body temperature throughout the night. The look of the mattress without sheets was nice and clean. However, the off-gassing was problematic but even that issue cleared up within a few days.” – Dr. Nilong Vyas MD, MPH, Zoma Start Reviewer

Vaya is committed to their promise of “pure comfort” and it shows in customers’ opinions, with many praising it for its comfort and support. Plenty love its mildly soft feel, while others have noted its more supportive than they expected to find in a budget-priced mattress.

One consumer reviewer called the bed “insanely good for the price.”

Most others were also satisfied, here are some other reviews for Vaya daybed mattresses:

Erin S: Delivered easily, set up easily, quite comfy, made in America. I don’t wake up with a stuff back, nor am I sleeping in a sunken pit. Pretty good overall.

Karen P: Very well made mattress, and I liked the idea of the hybrid. But unfortunately, it was much to firm for me. I tried to get used to it, but my hips are just too painful.

Natalie E: This Vaya mattress is amazing! It’s supportive and comfortable, just like a hug for your body! I’m looking forward to purchasing another soon!

The Vaya Mattress keeps it simple with two foam layers inside the bed’s soft, breathable cover. The comfort foam is engineered to respond swiftly to movements, while its lightweight nature ensures air circulates and removes accumulated heat before it causes discomfort.

The base foam is produced to maximize resilience and stability, supporting the body in any position and keeping the back in neutral alignment. Both foams are CertiPUR-US® certified, meaning they are free of potentially harmful materials and contain only trace amounts of VOCS for minimal off-gassing.

Pros

  • Certification attests to material quality and low VOCs
  • Comfort foam eases pressure points across the body
  • Base foam withstands daytime and nighttime use

Cons

  • May be a tad too plush for use as a daytime couch

Natural materials are a popular alternative to the standard synthetic products in mattresses. Some shoppers want a more sustainable bed, while others may prefer the feel of cotton and latex. The Nolah Natural 11 is one of our favorite eco-friendly mattresses, as its highly responsive and affordable.

The Natural 11 comes with a 120-night sleep trial and a lifetime warranty. The sleep trial can be removed before checking out, beneficial for budget shoppers looking to save on a quality mattress where they can.

9.0 Overall Score

  • 9 Edge Support
  • 9 Trial Period
  • 10 Response Time
  • 8 Motion Transfer
  • 9 Cooling & Breathability

While it’s a medium mattress like many of our previous recommendations, the Nolah Natural 11 can feel more buoyant than an all-foam mattress due to its combination of latex foam and pocketed coils. When comparing latex and memory foam, many tend to conclude that latex promotes a more “on top of the bed” feel, helpful when the mattress is used for both sitting and sleeping.

Nolah reviewers did have a decent number of complaints, but most were minor with people overall still satisfied with the mattress. Here are some of those reviews:

Yolanda: I appreciated the quick delivery and prompt response from the support team. The mattress is not bad, but it is not supportive enough for me. It is very springy, reminiscent of overnight’s at Grandma’s house many years ago.

Jo B: My shopping experience was good. October 13th I will be sleeping on my mattress for 30 days. As of now I am not sleeping better, wake up several times during the night with back pain.

Mary S: The mattress is comfortable. Only problem, with the wool layer, I am twisting and turning all over the mattress. I am a non smoking household so dont understand why I need wool layer. But otherwise mattress is very comfortable.

The Nolah Natural 11 has an organic cotton fabric cover, certified by Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Organic cotton is quite durable and breathable, moving heat and moisture away from people as they sit or sleep on their daybed mattresses.

The organic wool underneath the cotton fabric, also GOTS certified, further elevates the bed’s coolness and cushion. Wool is also a natural flame barrier, establishing a mattress without fiberglass or chemical retardants.

The bed’s main comfort layers are two separate layers of Talalay latex, a more conforming material than Dunlop material. The latex is also highly supportive, creating a weightless cushion suitable for daytime and nighttime use.

The pocketed coils are arranged to create three zones of support, creating comfort tailored to different areas of the body. The coils rest on a foundation of organic cotton and wool, a stable and durable surface. A separate cotton fabric forms the bottom of the mattress.

Pros

  • Removable sleep trial can help shoppers save more
  • Talalay latex foam ease pressure points and withstand use well
  • Pocketed coils provide three zones of airy, weightless support

Cons

  • Some daybed mattress frames may not support a heavy hybrid mattress

Back pain is a common complaint among sleepers, and it can be worsened by an ill-suited mattress. Conversely, beds with added back support can be a boon to sleepers who need to relieve pain and pressure on the spine. One such mattress is the Saatva Loom & Leaf, an all-foam model that can serve as sofa and bed.

The Saatva Loom & Leaf comes with a year-long sleep trial and a lifetime warranty.

The Saatva Loom & Leaf comes in two feels, offering a relaxed firm or a true firm surface. Either option provides minimal give to the surface, though the relaxed firm tends to better suit people who want a daybed mattress for equal amounts of sitting and sleeping.

Reviews on the Loom and Leaf are mixed. Most are happy, but some have issues:

Marie G: We received our relaxed firm mattress on the 6th of October. It took me three days before I could sleep without waking up in pain but I grew to like the mattress. Twelve days after delivery, I went to change the sheets and the cover. To my surprise, I noticed the section below where my husband sleeps was becoming bunched, as in wavy.

Kessler: We had originally bought the Classic Saatva mattress. Well rated and had good reviews. But too firm and stiff for our liking. We exchanged the Classic for the Loom and Leaf. 100% improvement for us. Saatva customer support was fantastic.

Megan: We had the most amazing experience ordering and delivery from you guys – exceptional service and quality! The service from the beginning to the end has been way above our expectations. I have never seen such excellent customer service as I have with Saatva. I recommend everyone to buy from them!! We sure will if we need to order again!!

The surface of the Saatva Loom & Leaf is organic cotton, treated with a botanical compound to keep bacteria and mold from penetrating the mattress. Underneath is a nontoxic thistle barrier for flame protection.

The bed’s targeted back support comes from the spinal cooling gel layer underneath the fabric, placed for support in any sleep position. This gel layer can also ease pressure points for improved relaxation.

Next is the first comfort foam layer, 2 inches of gel memory foam. The gel foam stays cool and is malleable enough to mold to the body as you sit down or stretch out.

The second comfort layer is high-density memory foam, providing balanced comfort and support. This memory foam layer provides the compressive feel that helps the mattress embrace a sleeper’s body, and the density helps it withstand extensive use.

A transitional loft pad serves to provide the mattress’s firmness, while keeping unwanted pressure from developing in the mattress.

The base foam supports the upper layers of the Saatva Loom & Leaf, strengthening the bed’s overall durability for greater stability.

Pros

  • Quilted top with organic cotton fabric
  • CertiPUR-US® certified foams for clean comfort
  • Cooling gel layer increases back support

Cons

  • Side sleepers will likely need softer mattresses

Mildly firm mattresses are often excellent choices for daybed mattresses. The surface isn’t rock hard, yet it’s not so yielding that people who sit down will feel as if the surface is a sinkhole. The GhostBed Classic is an excellent medium-firm mattress and can double as a couch and a bed for back sleepers.

The GhostBed Classic has a medium-firm feel, well-matched for a daybed mattress that’s expected to see a lot of use as a couch. People who sit down won’t sink too far and will find it easy to stand back up, while back sleepers and heavier individuals can stretch out and find the surface is comfortably supportive.

People who bought the GhostBed as a daybed mattress have loved it. here is what they had to say:

Mary W: We ordered a GhostBed for our downstairs daybed and we love it. The most exciting thing for us was that when it arrived compressed in a box we realized we would be able to get a king up the narrow steps of our old house. We just got our California King and we love it!

Kristin W: We recently purchased a king bed mattress and foundation, as well as a twin bed for use in my daughter’s daybed. Both my husband and I have shoulder and back issues for years, and are able to sleep in one position without pain for the first time in years!

Monica W: Bought this as a surprise Christmas gift for my 16yr old. She had a twin daybed mattress that squeaked with every movement. Drove her nuts. She also has scoliosis. I had bought ghost bed mattresses for my sons about 3 years ago and was impressed with the quality. So it was an easy decision.

The GhostBed Classic has three foam layers wrapped up in a plush cover fabric of viscose/polyester fabric, woven for breathability.

The first foam layer is non-allergenic latex foam. GhostBed has perforated the latex foam to help it better move heat away from a sleeper. The springiness of the latex foam can make sitting more comfortable, as individuals won’t sink far into the surface.

The second layer is gel memory foam, serving as a second cooling layer and compressing under sleepers’ bodies for more comfortable sleep. The long-lasting base foam provides needed support without creating too much firmness. This foam core establishes a resilient surface for daytime sitting and nighttime comfort.

Pros

  • Cooling latex foam and gel memory foam
  • Dense foam core supports the spine in neutral alignment
  • Airy mattress cover helps heat escape

Cons

  • Some may prefer a less firm feel, particularly for sleeping

Sleepers wanting an extra-firm foam bed will love Brooklyn Bedding’s Plank. This extra firm mattress is stiff as a board and perfect for those wanting a bed that feels notably firm.

The only other mattress Brooklyn Bedding offers outside of the Plank is the Plank Hybrid. Like the original Plank, the Plank Hybrid is both flippable and has a firm and ultra-firm side. What makes them different is the pocketed coils the Plank Hybrid has versus the Plank’s all foam design. The coil in the hybrid model provides extra bounce and breathability, something useful for hot sleepers.

Brooklyn Bedding offers a 120-night sleep trial with their Plank mattress. And if you like the bed, it’s backed by a 10-year warranty.

Out of over 1400 reviews, the Plank scores a 4.8 out of 5 stars. Buyers talk about how sleeping on the Plank memory foam mattresses have improved their sleep and pain immensely. Plus, despite being so firm, the bed is still comfortable and doesn’t leave them feeling achy. The firmness also helps customers who share a bed, ensuring they won’t disturb their sleep partner when shifting or getting out of bed.

Here are some of those reviews of people looking for the best memory foam daybed mattresses they can get:

Unis K: So far, it has met our expectations. I hope it stays the same and doesn’t sink. It is quite firm and very comfy. My husband and I love it. My back pain is gone.

Pulkit J: My parents started getting bad back pain

Cory L: Still deciding on the bed! It might be a little bit too firm even on the softer side. I will let you know when I lay on it more thank you.

On the website, Brooklyn Bedding describes the Plank as a firm bed for sleepers who say a typical firm isn’t enough. (If you prefer some cushioning, or have pressure points, you’ll want to steer clear of the Plank.) Some people who will love the Plank include stomach sleepers, larger people, some back sleepers, and people who get hot at night.

We like this mattress because of its dual, flippable firmness. This means one side of the bed has one firmness, and the other side has another. With the Plank, one side is firm, and the other is extra-firm. Both sides have cooling technologies to prevent hot nights. Plus, both sides do feature a thin layer of quilting to provide a slight cushion.

As we mentioned, both sides of this mattress act as comfort layers. Each side is a quilted top layer, with the extra-firm side having a 0.75-inch thick quilted top, while the firm side is a 1.5-inch quilted top, followed by 2 inches of TitanFlex™ comfort foam. The core of the mattress is 7 inches of dense base foam.

Each side can also have an optional cooling panel sewn on to better regulate the surface temperature.

Pros

  • Cooling features keep the firm surface from overheating
  • Flippable design lets sleepers experiment with preferences
  • Thick, dense base foam promotes mattress longevity

Cons

  • Firm feels only suit a limited number of sleepers

People looking for a firm mattress that can keep their spines aligned in a daybed mattress should look at the Helix Dawn. Not every mattress on the market is up to the task, but the firm and comforting Helix Dawn is. This mattress offers all the lift you need to keep your spine aligned.

The Dawn Luxe is a firm mattress, but that doesn’t mean it eliminates all pressure relief. In fact, the plush and cooling pillow top adds lots of cushioning back into the sleep surface that the firm feel takes away.

This can ensure your hip bones don’t press into the mattress and suffer pain as a result. For women, it also helps prevent the breasts from being squished by the combination of your body weight and the firm mattress exerting force.

Most people apprecieate the firmness of the Helix Dawn, with some wishing it was more firm. Here is what some had to say:

Mark W: Good, nice thick mattress. It is the firmest mattress I have ever slept on. It has a nice, almost pillow top feel on the very top 2 inches, then gives a good firm, no sag, feel. I sleep mostly on my stomach, and a lesser mattress let’s my back arch too far and I wake up in pain. I sleep better these days.

Paul D: Really bad unclear shipping times, waited way long for the matress itself. My particular one was listed as firm but its far too soft

Wilson L: Very satisfied with my Helix mattress, I has the firmness I’ve looking for at an affordable price.

The Dawn Luxe starts off by giving you the choice between two cooling covers. You can pick either breathable TENCEL or thermoconductive GlacioTex fabric that draws your body heat away from you.

Whichever cover you choose, it will sit on top of the premium cooling pillow top layer and the contouring Helix Dynamic Foam comfort layer. These layers work together to increase the contouring and pressure relief of the mattress without sacrificing the firm feel.

Next up, the high-density Memory Plus Foam reacts and contours to your body while offering tons of buoyancy to help fight sinkage and keep you on top of the sleep surface.

Underneath this layer, you’ll find a layer of high-grade polyfoam that provides ergonomic support and seamless progression to the zoned support core below.

Finally, the support layer offers over 1,000 individually wrapped coils that are zoned to offer you enhanced support in the middle of your body and better pressure relief for your shoulders and hips, which for stomach sleepers, translates into improved contouring for the chest and front of the pelvis.

Pros

  • Enhanced support in the middle of the mattress keeps the spine aligned
  • Buoyant transition foam fights sinkage and keeps you lifted
  • High-density comfort foam creates even more support

Cons

  • Too firm for all but stomach sleepers and some heavier back sleepers

Mattress Types for Daybeds

Most high-quality mattresses have two or more layers, at least one for comfort and another for support. Different brands use various materials and technologies to construct their mattresses, however, the most common mattress types are memory foam, latex foam, innerspring, and hybrid mattress.

Memory Foam

Lots of mattresses today contain memory foam, or some unique variation of it, such as gel, charcoal, or graphite-infused. Memory foam mattresses are popular because they limit motion transfer, relieve pressure, and have a luxurious “hug-like” feel.

Because it’s so dense, memory foam traps heat. Plus, the petroleum used to make memory foam soft and responsive can cause off-gassing, a chemical smell that usually goes away a day or two after opening the bed. To solve these problems, brands have started using cooling technologies (such as gel infusions) to prevent the foam from overheating and plant-based foams to minimize off-gassing.

Most newer memory foams are CertiPUR-US® certified, meaning they have low VOCs, plus no ozone depleters, heavy metals, formaldehyde, or phthalates. Look for foams with this certification and, if it’s a priority for you, eco-friendly foam made with plant-based oils.

Latex Foam

Latex comes from rubber tree sap and is whipped into a springy, durable foam. Latex is hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, and the eco-friendly harvesting process appeals to environmentally-conscious shoppers who needs a mattress for allergies.

Latex mattresses are great for shoppers who want a foam bed but don’t like the cradling feel of memory foam, these beds have a natural resiliency to keep you lifted and supported no matter your sleep position.

Innerspring

Innersprings are popular because they’re inexpensive, responsive, and provide enough cushioning at first, but after a short while, they start to sag, causing discomfort. Most innerspring owners report deep sags within the first 5 years of ownership.

Innerspring beds have a coil support system in the base with a pillow top comfort layer, typically made of cotton, polyester, foam, or wool (or a combination). Although innerspring mattresses are responsive and have good airflow thanks to the coils, they wear down sooner than other mattress types and aren’t as plush or pressure-relieving.

Hybrid

Hybrid mattresses contain a combination of innerspring and foam mattress technologies. They have a pocketed coil support system, meaning each metal coil is in a fabric pocket. Pocket coils respond individually to movement, limiting any motion transfer and preventing sags from developing. All hybrids must have a comfort layer at least 2-3 inches thick, usually of latex or memory foam. Both provide great pressure relief and motion isolation.

While hybrid mattresses are incredibly comfortable and supportive, they’re pricier due to their complex materials. Also, if you’re living alone or suffer from mobility issues, hybrids are also some of the heaviest mattresses to move.

What to Look for In a Daybed Mattresses

We’ve come up with a list of features to help you determine the right mattress for you, including your budget and the mattress’s characteristics. If your daybed mattress is a temporary solution or for the occasional guest, you might prefer a thinner, inexpensive twin mattress, though if you want for regular use, a thicker, higher-quality full mattress is ideal.

Mattress Size

Daybed mattresses are often compatible with twin mattresses (38 by 75 inches), though some of them fit full mattresses (54 by 75 inches). Both full and twin beds are compatible with individual sleepers, though two sleepers could share a full-sized bed in a pinch. Stick with a twin bed if you don’t need much space or upgrade to a full bed if you prefer stretching out.

Thickness

Most daybed mattresses are between 6 to 12 inches thick. However, consider the total height of your bed frame with the mattress, especially when using it as a couch-bed combo, before settling on a thickness.

An extra thick mattress (14 inches or thicker) can make your daybed too tall and heavy. Ideally, your feet should be flat on the floor when you’re sitting at the edge of your bed, so getting in and out of it isn’t a chore.

If you have a daybed with a trundle (a mattress on wheels), the trundle bed mattress should be 4 to 6 inches at most so it can slide in and out without difficulty.

Firmness

Daybed mattresses are often medium-firm mattress to firm and best suit back sleeping, stomach sleeping, and larger sleepers. However, choose a mattress firmness based on your sleeping position and size for the best overall comfort and support:

  • Medium to soft feels are best in mattresses for side sleeping.
  • Medium-firm to true firm feels establish excellent mattresses for back sleepers.
  • Medium to medium-firm mattresses are the best mattresses for combination sleepers.
  • Firm mattresses are good mattresses for stomach sleepers.
  • Softer feels are need for pressure relief in mattresses for lightweight sleepers.
  • Firmer feels can establish supportive mattresses for heavy sleepers.

The correct mattress firmness for your sleeping position promotes a healthy spine, prevents pressure build-up, and improves your sleep quality.

Price

You can expect to pay between $150 to $1500 for the average daybed, depending on the material, thickness, and any special technologies added to it. Blankets, sheets, pillows, and other accessories are another cost to keep in mind.

If you regularly sleep on your daybed, choose a higher-quality mattress for proper support and durability. However, if your daybed is mainly for sitting, use a cheaper mattress since you won’t need the support and sleeping technologies of expensive mattresses.

Benefits of Using a Daybed

While daybeds might not appeal to every sleeper, they’re nice if you’re looking to optimize a small space or are on a budget.

Multifunctional

One of the great benefits of a daybed is their versatility. They work well as mattresses for guests, as your primary bed, and as a deep-set couch for extra comfortable lounging. Multipurpose furniture is particularly valuable when you’re working with less space or have a tight budget because you get different uses out of it.

Space-Saving

Daybeds are great for studios, apartments, and small homes. Whether you plan on using a daybed for yourself or guests, a soda-bed duo in a living room or office takes up less space than an entire bedroom. Lots of daybeds also come with trundle beds, so you get two sleeping surfaces for the space of one.

Good for Children and Teens

Best Mattress for Daybeds

Children and teens might be interested in daybeds since they can have a private sleeping and sitting area, especially if their bedroom is smaller. A daybed mattress is also practical when having friends over, reading, watching a movie, and more. If your children share a room or have sleepovers often, choose a daybed with a trundle.

Decorative

Lots of daybeds are aesthetically pleasing and come in a variety of designs to suit your home. And, adding several decorative pillows or bed shams onto your daybed mattress when you’re not sleeping on it makes it look lovely in a living room, office, or bedroom.

Depending on the daybed’s bed frame, you may also be able to pair it with a bed skirt for a more classical look.

Affordable

Compared to buying a couch and a bed separately, a daybed mattress costs less. Twin and full mattresses and their accessories are also cheaper than other mattress sizes. Daybeds don’t need an additional mattress base because they typically already have steel suspension decks to hold up the mattress.

FAQs

Are daybeds suitable for adults?

Yes, daybeds work well for solo adult sleepers. Most daybeds are twin beds, so they can be a bit short and narrow, but you can choose a full daybed for extra space. Daybeds—even full sized ones—are a bit too narrow for couples to comfortably sleep on every night, though it works as a temporary sleep solution when needed.

Can you sleep on a daybed all the time?

You can sleep on a daybed every night, though how comfortable and supportive it depends on your mattress quality. Invest in a thicker, higher-quality mattress to ensure it’s durable and properly supportive for nightly use.

How much weight can a daybed hold?

The exact weight capacity of a daybed depends on the frame, though most daybeds can carry between 200 to 600 pounds. Since this is a large range, always check the weight capacity before purchasing.

Is a futon or daybed more comfortable?

Futons are sofas you unfold into a mattress and work well for small apartments or studios because they’re used for both lounging and sleeping, just like a daybed. Still, daybeds are comfortable to sleep on because you can use a regular mattress for it as opposed to a thin futon mattress. Futons are better for lounging and sitting on since they’re not as deep as daybeds.

What is the difference between a daybed and a trundle bed?

A trundle bed is a 2-in-1 sleeping solution: it’s the size of a twin (sometimes full) bed frame, with a sliding or pop-up mattress drawer underneath it. With a trundle bed, you can fit two beds in the storage space of one.

Alternatively, daybeds are sofa-bed duos, though they do occasionally have trundles and sleep two people as well. However, not all trundle beds are daybeds and not all daybeds are trundle beds. Both are space-conscious and work for small rooms, children, or guests.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, consider your wants and needs when shopping for a daybed mattress. If you plan on using your daybed mattress to sleep on, allot a larger budget for a higher-quality mattress. On the other hand, if your daybed mattress is primarily for sitting and the occasional guest, you don’t need to be as spendy.

We hope our guide makes mattress shopping a little easier and helps you narrow down your options. If you’re unsure what’s right for you, most mattresses come with sleep trials so you can test them at home and decide whether or not they fit your needs.
